The first review of Blue Burt and Wiggles was just published in Kirkus Reviews. The reviewer really focused in on Derek's specific visual approach to the book, so this review is particularly intriguing. The reviewer says "Anderson's pleasingly busy illustrations give readers a perspective that is only five inches high." and "Half-hidden humorous details will keep youngsters' attention long after the first reading, while the expressive and adorable main characters will have them clamoring for more. Derek to Illustrate the
2007 Minnesota Library
Summer Reading Program

Derek has been asked to illustrate the 2007 Minnesota Library Summer Reading Program. His original illustrations will appear on posters and bookmarks, among other things, to help promote reading in Minnesota next summer. Derek will be working on the artwork over the course of this summer, but the finished poster and other materials will not be available until sometime next year. Derek is honored to be working on this great project. Many wonderful illustrators have been tapped to contribute to this very valuable program in past years including Dav Pilkey, Lane Smith, Peggy Rathmann and Stephen Gammell, who's "Catch the Beat at Your Library" is appearing this summer.

Derek Speaks to Reading Rainbow Authors & Illustrators

In May, Derek was invited to speak to a group of young authors and illustrators at the TPT Channel 2 studios in St. Paul, Minnesota. The audience of more than 200 consisted of kindergarten through third graders and their families. Each student had written and illustrated a book of their own and the kids in attendance had been selected as winners of the statewide competition. Derek spoke about writing and illustrating and how he got started making books.
